For Love Of The Game

Dear Mr. Costner,

Can you smell that hint of Spring in the air? That means that baseball is just around the corner. With Pitchers and Catchers reporting to Major League training facilities this past week, we here at "If I Blog It They Will Come" decided that it’s never too early throw your support behind a Major League team for the season. Before deciding which particular franchise to hitch our wagons to, we had to first ask this pivotal question.

Translation…Who would Kevin Costner Root For?

Our first inclination was to go with the Chicago White Sox based on the most classic of your baseball movies Field of Dreams. However, since the White Sox recently brought home the Commissioner’s Trophy, we decided to take a five year pass on the White Stockings of yore.

Our next idea was to throw our support behind the Detroit Tigers…but once we realized that Billy Chapel, your character in For Love of The Game, wouldn’t be pitching for them this season, we had a change of heart. Plus, they really blew their big chance in the 2006 series and chances like that don’t come around too often.


Then we happened upon the Tampa Bay Devil Rays while researching the Durham Bulls. Turns out Durham is the AAA affiliate to the newest franchise in the Sunshine State and while they do have some strong young talent there will forever be a strong distaste for any team affiliated with the Bulls after they so unceremoniously cut Crash Davis loose before he could reach the record for most home runs by a minor leaguer. An act we consider to be completely classless.


Finally, we here at if "I Blog It They Will Come" seemed to be at an impasse. We wanted to give one team our ever-loving support in the name of Kevin Costner, when finally we happened upon the lowly Kansas City Royals. One look upon the logo on their “KC” adorned hats and we knew it was fate. It was as clear as day. This would be a team that we could forever throw our support behind. So without further ado…"If I Blog It They Will Come" announces that our official team for the 2007 baseball season, and maybe forever, depending on whether or not you, Mr. Kevin Costner, decide to send us a photo of yourself looking at our blog to djayek@yahoo.com, shall be the KC Royals.

We believe with the support of Kevin Costner and his fans all over the world, the Royals are destined for a reversal of fortune.

And now that we've completed the difficult task of declaring our Baseball allegiance for the upcoming 2007 season, we feel like we've earned a day off. Mr. Costner you will not be hearing from us again until after the President's day holiday. We here at "If I Blog It They Will Come" ask that you take that extra time to further ponder our request and perhaps even take a few practice photos of yourself looking at our blog. Think of it as your own sort of Spring Training.
