World's Greatest Blog Post

Dear Mr. Robin Williams,

We've been on a bit of a self-imposed hiatus the last few weeks. Things have heated up on the personal front, and well sometimes we have to turn our love of blogging into a sacrificial lamb for the sake of other intellectual pursuits (and believe us the pursuits are intellectual). The wealth of Robin Williams news stories has bombarded us with the accuracy of a heat-sinking missile as of late. So we'll get to the Conan appearance and the Susan Boyle rumors, but before we get to those absolute RW gems there's something else fresh on our minds.

This Tuesday evening, we here at If I Blog It They Will Come, made it down to Manhattan's Landmark Sunshine theater (waiting behind Lou Reed on the ticket line) for the 9:50pm showing of World's Greatest Dad. Our palates were whet with anticipation and equally full of popcorn as we took in what was probably the best film we saw all summer. Your wondrously brilliant performance as Lance Clayton- a character torn between the roles of sympathetic everyman, struggling artist, and self-centered opportunist- tugged at our heart strings and at the same time made us question our motives.

You see Mr. Williams, we like to think of this here blog as a complex character a la Lance Clayton. On one hand we are but one blog, the everyblog in a sea of struggling blogs trying to achieve their goals and entertain the masses or at least the few readers we can muster...all the while caring for it as if it were our own child (Though if that were the case our child might have been taken away by protective services due to all of the neglect). Meanwhile, there are plenty of other blogs that we view as not worth a damn...that all of the kids and attractive women flock to, sort of like a certain teacher's New Yorker piece on the first Robot NBA forward. While we've never resorted to any sort of fakery (well, maybe we have) to find success, that doesn't mean that our goal is completely devoid of a need for the spotlight.

Much like Lance uses his son, we use a certain celebrity (in this case, you) to advance our goal as a blog. However, we've never done so without the purest of intentions. We want everyone to feel as much respect for you as we do, even though you've done nothing personally for us to warrant that so far, save for continue to make quality movies that we'll be enjoying the rest of our lives (really that should be enough). Being the greedy sonsabitches we are though, it's not enough...we want more. We want the equivalent of being on the Dr. Dana show. Ultimately, the only thing that could possibly compare to national TV exposure is if you would see fit to send us a photo of yourself looking at our blog to djayek@yahoo.com.

Only then will we have a startling realization that the only thing that really matters is our own artistic integrity and the fact that we can touch people through our writing. So what do you say RW, gives us a hand...the one that's not being used to put that Bruce Hornsby album in the CD changer.

Sincerely,
The World's Greatest Blog at If I Blog It They Will Come
