The Swing of Things
Dear Mr. Robin Williams,
We here at If I Blog It They Will Come were delighted to see you yesterday in the stands at Tradition Field, cheering on your old buddy Billy Crystal as he made his childhood dream of playing in pinstripes come true. There was plenty of optimism about Mr. Crystal's big league potential once he got ahead 3-1 in the count to Paul Maholm and even fouled a shot down the first base line. Unfortunately, that's as good as it got for Billy as the mighty Crystal eventually struck out.
That got us to thinking. What if the tables were turned? What if you, Robin Williams, took to the batter's box instead of Mr. Saturday Night? In our estimation, you have all the intangibles of a quality utility player. Your quick wit and speed making comedic decisions would undoubtedly translate to having a lightning fast bat. You'd also probably be able to handle a couple of innings at shortstop, another position that requires quick reactions. If we were betting men, and occasionally we are if we're in a city where it's legal, we'd wager that you'd fare better than your Yankee fanatic friend in a big league tryout.
In fact we think you should give it a go during the regular season with your hometown San Francisco Giants. They don't have Barry Bonds anymore so they could use a little more pop in their bats and a winning locker room presence. You'd certainly be a boon to any teams World Series hopes. Well, first thing's first, if you're going to be in the big leagues you're going to need your own baseball card. However, since you've yet to play an inning, you're going to need a photo on that baseball card. We think since this whole Robin Williams baseball star thing was our idea, you should honor us by making your rookie card a photo of you looking at our blog. But before you take the snap and send it to the good folks at Topps, Donruss, Fleer or Upper Deck...please send it to us at djayek@yahoo.com , as we'd like to be in the know when you finally decide to take the plunge into the Major Leagues and we don't want to have to scour waxpacks of cards just to get what we've been shamelessly lobbying for for months now.
Thanks for your time and consideration and remember, if you're going to go down, at least go down swinging.
Sincerely,
The "Plenty of Pop In Our Bat" Folks at If I Blog It They Will Come
