Standing Up For Heroes

Dear Mr. Williams,

We would like to start off today's post by offering a heartfelt apology. What are we apologizing for? Well, you see, we would've liked to have attended last night's "Stand Up for Heroes" event at Town Hall to see you stalk the stage dispensing clever political humor to an appreciative crowd, but the overabundance of comedy going on in New York last night due to the fourth annual New York Comedy festival led us to see Sarah Silverman at Carnegie Hall as those tickets had been purchased long before we knew you would be performing on the same night.

We here at "If I Blog It They Will Come" are absolutely distraught at the fact that we missed such a top notch show featuring Conan O'Brien, Lewis Black, yourself and Bruce Springsteen (one of our musical favorites). There's something to be said for the manner in which you always seem to be on the front lines, fighting for the important causes by doing what you do best...making us laugh. It reminds us a lot of when you playeed Adrian Cronauer in Good Morning Vietnam, as you stood up in the face of establishment poking fun at Richard Nixon and playing the Rock and Roll music all in the name of making a difficult situation a little easier for our troops. True you don't have the late Bruno Kirby (a fine fine actor) telling you to tone it down all of the time or Forrest Whitaker and Robert Wuhl egging you on, but you seem to handle yourself just fine up there.

Indeed "Stand-up for Heroes" was an appropriate title for last night's event, not only for the money it raised for our troops injured on the front lines, but also because it showcased our comedic hero, Robin Williams, back in his element. Like the very real troops you helped out last night and the troops from Good Morning Vietnam, we are always grateful for more Robin Williams comedy. We hope to convince you soon to make the heroic gesture of sending us a photo of yourself looking at our blog to djayek@yahoo.com. We know it's nothing compared to work you've already done but we hope the simplicity and sincerity of our request is enough that you might see fit to deem or cause a worthy one.
